How To Install A Barrel Faucet

A screw top barrel spout can be installed by anyone who is reasonably handy with basic tools and their hands."screw top barrel" It is fairly simple to have it installed, but there are a few precautions that should be taken to keep your new installation in good working order for many years. Although the instructions are not specific, they do give a general outline on how to do it. For those who are not experienced at DIY projects, it is a good idea to hire someone to come in and do this for you, or to have them do it for you. This will save you the time and frustration of trying to figure it out on your own.

First, line up the screw hole up with the screw on the wall so the opening is perfectly lined up."screw top barrel" Then, using a rubber mallet, gently pound on the spout to make sure it is firmly in place. Use another rubber mallet to test for leaks. Line up the threaded end of the spout with the same hole on the wall, and then screw the spout into place. The airlock should be completely closed, if it is properly installed. Overflow: If you see a leak in your new screw top barrel over time, then the gasket may have been improperly installed or the screw might be defective. In this case, replace the gasket or throw away the old one and get a new one.

Next, install the plastic insert. As with the screw top, there will be a lip that forms when the plastic insert is screwed into the tube. If you overheat the screw top, cover the plastic insert with a rubber band. This will prevent the plastic from melting.

The last step is to screw on the closed top. Start by installing the spigot and screw the plastic tube into it. Place the screw top over the tube and screw the screw into the tube, starting with one side first. Place the shutoff valve (if necessary) over the end of the barrel and turn on the water supply valve to open the top.

With a mig welder, cut a small slit in both ends of the tube to allow the flow of water to the screw top. With the small slit, insert the resealer into the hole so it is fully covered. With the resealer in one inch and the screw top in two inches, use the screwdriver to hold the resealer in place against the screw hole while you apply the resealer. When it is complete, use the two-inch hole saw to carefully smooth out any bubbles or air pockets. Then attach the rubber band to the end of the resealer, but leave enough free so the spigot can be resealed later.

Before turning on the water supply to run the hot water through the closed top and ensure it is completely lined up with the rubber band. If need be, use the screw driver to turn on the shut off valve for the first time and then line the plastic tube with silicone sealant. Turn on the water and pour into the closed faucets until the suction is effective. Replace the screw and give a final screw tight screw turn to ensure the sealant adheres well.
